Medium introduces a new feature to reward its writers.
Do you feel underapreciated with your MPP earnings? Don’t you worry — now, readers can show their appreciation for your content directly, by tipping.
This is a bold move from the creators of Medium considering it already has a paid subscription-based membership. However, it is a fact that writers are underpaid and underappreciated as a standard. Those making hundreds if not thousands from the Partner Program are the exception, not the rule.
And truth being said, sometimes you come across content that just speaks to you. The writer grasps your attention from the moment you set your eyes on the first paragraph and by the time you’re done, your first reaction is to check whether they produced more content of this quality. In situations like these you might want to reward them beyond the mere couple of cents they will get from you reading their article.
What do we know?
One of the first things the Medium team made clear is that the tipping is still in beta. The finished product will likely be different to what we’re seeing right now.
Another thing we know is that it is a voluntary feature — to nobody’s surprise.
